Barrington Levy, born in Clarendon, Jamaica, began his music career with the band Mighty Multitude before establishing a successful solo career. He became popular in Jamaican dancehalls at a young age and worked with various record producers like Hyman Wright and Henry “Junjo” Lawes, releasing numerous hit singles and albums. Levy gained international fame, particularly in the UK, with hits like “Under Mi Sensi” and “Here I Come.” He won the Best Vocalist prize at the British Reggae Awards in 1984. Despite some periods of slower output, he continued performing and recording, collaborating with various artists and experiencing a resurgence with cover versions of Bob Andy songs and later collaborations with artists like Bounty Killer, Snoop Dogg, and Gorillaz. He received a Grammy nomination for his “Acousticalevy” album in 2016 and was ranked number 119 on Rolling Stone’s 200 Greatest Singers of All Time in 2023. His long-awaited album “Survivor” remains unreleased.
